City resident Carlton Brooks, 27, was arrested days after an unprovoked early morning assault of a man who was hospitalized on Saturday morning.
Shortly before 3 a.m. on May 18, officers were called to the 400 block of West Mulberry Street to probe a reported aggravated assault involving an unidentified man who was found suffering from serious injuries to his face and head.
Investigators say that it was later determined that the man was sleeping on the ground in the 400 block of Cathedral Street when Brooks allegedly began brutally assaulting his victim without warning.
He was identified as a suspect and arrested earlier this week, authorities announced on Thursday.
Brooks was taken to the Central Booking Intake Facility in Baltimore, where he was charged with attempted first-degree murder.
Bond information was unavailable.
